"The longer I stayed, the more I liked it here,"
"For me, it was always cheaper to rent and invest the money for passive income than to spend too much on buying a house. But kids change everything,"
"We really like the area, because it's around 15 minutes away from the beach. We're on the hilly part, near the mountain,"
Dmitrii Stepanov arrived in the Philippines in 2018 for a one-month trip and stayed seven years, marrying Nivy Mondaya and having two children. He shifted from videography in Russia to scuba diving and underwater photography in Dumaguete, drawn by the rich diving scene and low cost of living. The couple met online about six months after his arrival; Mondaya is originally from Bohol. Their first child was born in 2021 while they were stuck in Vietnam during the pandemic. They later chose Dauin for its cooler, hilly terrain near the beach, bought land via Facebook Marketplace, and decided to build a custom home for their family.
