Australian sprint star Gout Gout will not race at 2026 Commonwealth Games
"It is [a big decision], Gout told the Seven Network. [The Commonwealth Games] is a great event and it's one of those big meetings everyone loves. But looking at it, it is definitely a better decision going for the world under-20s. The world under-20s meeting formerly known as the world junior championships will take place from 5-9 August in Eugene, Oregon, at the same stadium that hosted the 2022 world championships."
"Before going on to dominate world sprinting and rewrite the record books, Bolt kicked off his career with 200m gold at the 2002 world juniors. Gout, who was second in the half-lap race at the world under-20 championships in Lima at the age of 16, has often spoken of his wish to emulate Bolt's feat. Gout had been flagged as a potential 100m medallist in Glasgow, and his absence will be a significant blow to the Australian team, and the event as a whole."
Eighteen-year-old Australian sprinter Gout Gout withdrew from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow to concentrate on the world under-20 championships in Eugene from 5–9 August. The two events are scheduled back-to-back, and Gout with his support team judged competing at both unwise early in his career. Gout aims to emulate Usain Bolt, who won 200m gold at the 2002 world juniors. Gout won silver in the under-20 200m in Lima aged 16 and had been considered a potential 100m medallist in Glasgow. Team officials expressed understanding and support for his long-term development.
