Nikki Hiltz achieved their sixth straight national title in the 1500m category at the USA Track and Field National Championships on August 2. Identifying as trans and non-binary, Hiltz expressed excitement about the victory and their preparation for upcoming competitions, including the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. After not qualifying for the 2021 Olympic team, Hiltz focused on building their strength over the past three years. I didn't make the 2021 Olympic team and I was like, 'OK, my speed's there, but I really need to work on my strength'. I spent the past three years of my life to building my strength.
Tokyo is going to be fast...And I'm excited to see how fast I can run.
