Army of bots amplify Nicki Minaj's pro-MAGA & anti-LGBTQ+ social media posts - LGBTQ Nation
"Supportive comments generated by fake profiles were predominantly brief, repetitive, and low in semantic complexity, consisting largely of praising keywords and positive hashtags rather than original or substantive engagement. In general, Cyabra found a sustained and coordinated amplification of Minaj's political and cultural posts from November 11 to December 28, something which is rare for a musical artist on social media."
"Cyabra found that the bots help amplify her posts even more when they contain toxic personal attacks or slurs. Many of the bots also amplified messages from the anti-LGBTQ+ young conservatives group Turning Point USA. Furthermore, the company's analysis found that the X accounts of Dom Lucre and Matt Wallace parroted Minaj's talking points, suggesting strategic coordination behind the scenes."
Disinformation detection company Cyabra analyzed Nicki Minaj's social media activity on X and discovered a coordinated amplification campaign using over 18,784 fake or bot accounts. Between November 11 and December 28, these accounts generated predominantly brief, repetitive comments lacking substantive engagement, consisting mainly of praise and positive hashtags. On December 26 alone, fake profiles comprised 56% of all comments on Minaj's political posts. The bots particularly amplified posts containing toxic personal attacks or slurs, including messages attacking California Governor Gavin Newsom's perceived alignment with the transgender community. Analysis also revealed that conservative influencers Dom Lucre and Matt Wallace parroted Minaj's talking points, suggesting coordinated strategy. The amplification pattern was unusual for a musical artist and included amplification of anti-LGBTQ+ content from Turning Point USA.
