Twinless, a queer comedy starring Dylan O'Brien, will arrive in cinemas on September 5. The film features O'Brien and James Sweeney, who plays a crucial role behind the camera as writer, director, and producer. The story revolves around two men who develop a bond in a twin bereavement support group. O'Brien's portrayal of dual roles—one straight and the other queer—earned him significant acclaim at Sundance, where the film won both the audience award and a jury award for his acting. With a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the film promises a fresh take on male friendship in modern times.
"I'm holding ample space for Twinless and look forward to overthinking future press quotes," Sweeney joked.
O'Brien told Variety that one particularly emotional scene was "the most naked thing I've ever had to do on a set".
Eric d'Arbeloff and Howard Cohen hailed Twinless as a "genuine comedic crowd pleaser and sophisticated examination of male friendship in the internet age".
They added O'Brien's performance was "nothing less than a star-defining turn".
