"With less than a week before the Portola Music Festival 's gates open, San Francisco's electronic music festival is getting an unexpected boost from one of the world's most popular LGBTQ+ dating apps. Starting Monday, the LGBTQ+ app is switching out its familiar "bloop" notification sound. Instead, for the next week, when U.S. Grindr users receive a message, they'll hear the opening of "Come on Over Baby (All I Want Is You)," the 1999 hit by Christina Aguilera."
"Boasting more than 14 million users, Grindr is one of the world's most popular LGBTQ+ apps. While users take advantage of the app's social networking features, Grindr is perhaps best known as a hookup app. The news release notes that Aguilera's music has had a lasting impact on the LGBTQ+ community, making her music a natural fit for the platform."
""Portola, Grindr and me? That's a threesome I can get behind," Aguilera said in a news release announcing the change. "When that 'Come on Over' sound hits at the festival, or wherever you're celebrating, I hope things get spicy!""
With less than a week until the Portola Music Festival, Grindr will replace its familiar "bloop" notification sound for U.S. users with the opening of Christina Aguilera's 1999 hit "Come on Over Baby" for one week. The swap begins Monday as part of promotion for the San Francisco festival, where Aguilera is a headliner alongside LCD Soundsystem, Peggy Gou and the Prodigy. Grindr has more than 14 million users and is best known as a hookup app while also offering social networking features. Aguilera's music has resonated with the LGBTQ+ community. A prior 2024 sound swap for the U.S. Open produced mixed reactions.
