Rainbow Grocery is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a block party on August 17, 2025, in SoMa. Founded in 1975 by followers of Maharaji, it began as a volunteer-run store. Over time, it transitioned into a worker-owned co-op, where all employees have equal say and profits are shared. The store, known for its quality coffee and commitment to cage-free eggs, moved locations several times due to popularity. It now operates from its owned building at Folsom and 14th streets and has maintained a devoted customer base.
