Mass. veteran drowns saving son and niece in Florida, family says
Briefly

Joshua Curtis, a decorated Army veteran, tragically drowned after saving his son Owen and niece from a rip current in Florida on April 24. His heroic efforts led to his death, as he worked to keep the children afloat. Family members and community members remembered him for his selflessness, bravery, and dedication to his family. A statement from his family expressed their pride in his character, and the local football program he coached shared their sorrow, highlighting his lasting impact as a soldier, father, and friend.
I think he did everything he could to just keep those two kids afloat. The hardest thing was Owen and just the sheer look of panic on his face.
It is with great pride and sadness that we say goodbye to a man that embodies what it means to be a soldier, father, husband and ultimately a hero.
His selfless actions were a reflection of the man he was—brave, loving, and devoted to those he cared about.
Josh was an Army veteran, a family man, a coach, and a friend to so many in our community.
