Forsa, representing over 2,800 school secretaries and caretakers, announced an overwhelming support for strike action, with 98% voting in favor. The indefinite strike is set to begin on August 28, focusing on securing access to a public service pension scheme for school secretaries currently excluded despite their centralized payroll status. Andy Pike of Forsa emphasized the urgency of addressing pension equality, citing frustration over ongoing discrepancies in pension rights and highlighting the essential contributions of these education professionals to school operations. The union is also aiming for similar pension provisions for school caretakers.
Our members have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action because they believe the campaign for pension equality must be seen through to its conclusion.
The absence of pension provision under the Single Public Service Pension Scheme remains a glaring omission. Forsa has always argued that pension justice is an essential part of full equality.
