South Korea's acting President Han Duck-soo resigns
Briefly

Han Duck-soo has resigned as South Korea's acting President, positioning himself as a front-runner for next month's presidential election with the People Power Party (PPP), struggling to regain footing after Yoon Suk-yeol's ousting. Han, a seasoned bureaucrat, suggested that he aims to tackle the nation's crises head-on. Expected to launch his presidential campaign soon, he faces a significant challenge against liberal candidate Lee Jae-myung, who currently leads in polls. Han's extensive government experience may bolster his candidacy as he seeks to unify the party and regain lost ground against opponents.
There are two paths in front of me. One of them is to complete my current obligation. The other is to resign from my position and take on a heavier responsibility.
I've finally determined to put down my post to do what I can and what I have to help overcome the crises facing us.
The PPP is behind in the latest Gallup Korea poll, with Lee on 38% and the potential PPP presidential candidates on a combined 23%.
Han has previously served as trade minister, finance minister and ambassador to the U.S. He has also been prime minister twice.
