Artist Tariq Stone, during his residency at Recology San Francisco, created a film and photo exhibit featuring discarded objects, including grandfather clocks. The exhibit is part of the Art/Education/Community show opening at Minnesota Street Project. Stone credits the residency for providing studio space and financial support, which significantly altered his artistic practice. He views discarded items as meaningful, contributing to the recycling narrative in art while minimizing production costs, as everything used in his film was sourced from the public dump. Recology offers unique residency opportunities for artists to transform waste into art.
"For artists, I think it's really beautiful that it's expanding the idea of recycling. We can recycle these things into something meaningful, and I think that's important and powerful."
"Without them, we'd be covered in trash. The production design of that film was really cool, and everything was from the trash. If we had to buy those things or source those them it would have been prohibitively expensive."
