'A food desert:' Bayview Lucky to close after less than three years

Lucky will close its Bayview location after three years, leaving only Foods Co. and Grocery Outlet as the two major grocery options, both over a mile away. The closure exacerbates longstanding food access challenges in the southeastern Bayview neighborhood, which is disproportionately low-income and considered a food desert. District 10 Supervisor Shamann Walton said his office will work with the Office of Economic and Workforce Development to restore essential grocery and pharmacy services. Lucky opened in October 2022 replacing a Walgreens that closed in 2019; Lucky did not provide a reason for leaving, and local officials are seeking answers and negotiations.
