With multiple Walgreens closures in San Francisco, one store remains open, causing significant wait times for customers. Locals express frustration over the situation, especially those relying on the pharmacy for medications. Donald Hughes, a customer, shared his struggle of waiting long periods, highlighting the inconvenience of limited options. Walgreens stated they are making efforts to reduce wait times by adding staff and equipment. The issue has caught the attention of local Supervisor Jackie Fielder, who is advocating for solutions to support independent pharmacies.
"It's outrageous. You're sitting here for 20, 30 minutes. Fifteen to 20 minutes in line just to get to the front desk, and when you get to the front desk, they got you on a 45-minute to hour-long wait just to get your medication," Hughes said.
Walgreens reported they are "taking steps at that location to reduce wait times. That includes adding equipment (extra registers), providing additional personnel and working extra hours."
Supervisor Jackie Fielder said, "That's why I called for one of our city agencies to come up with a report for how we can stand up a cooperative organization and structure to support our local independent pharmacies."
