The event is on Feb. 8, but starting Friday, several blocks downtown along with streets in two other San Francisco neighborhoods are closing to traffic for Super Bowl-related events. City officials are actively warning locals and visitors to take public transit and avoid driving if they can, especially when passing by several major areas downtown."
"Streets near or around the Civic Center, Grace Cathedral, the Ferry Building and the former Hibernia Bank Building, which is now an event space, are closing. Elsewhere, the Palace of Fine Arts in the Marina District and the Pearl venue in Dogpatch are both hosting events and experiencing some street closures. The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency notes that events last for 11 days until Monday, Feb. 9, but some street closures are temporary and are not closed for that entire period."
Levi's Stadium is over 40 miles from downtown San Francisco, but downtown will serve as the official doorstep to Super Bowl activities. Several downtown blocks and streets in two other neighborhoods will close for Super Bowl-related events beginning Friday and lasting through Feb. 9, though some closures are temporary. City officials urge locals and visitors to take public transit and avoid driving, especially near major downtown areas. SFMTA created six maps detailing closures and timetables and has established detours for impacted bus lines, including routes 6 Hayes/Parnassus, 5 Fulton, 5R Fulton Rapid, and 27 Bryant. The California Highway Patrol and BART police will provide additional officers during the event period.
