Local leaders and community members expressed outrage after U.S. Customs and Border Patrol revoked visas for two Palestinian men who were in the U.S. for a humanitarian mission aimed at raising awareness for Middle Eastern children. San Francisco Supervisor Bilal Mahmood reported that this incident was unprecedented in the last decade at San Francisco International Airport. The men had strong ties with local faith communities, and their sudden detention sparked a rally of support from activists and community members who stood by their mission and contributions.
The most the Border Patrol has told us after we initiated contact was that they had valid visas when they got here, and they were revoked last minute.
They were here on a humanitarian mission, alongside a lot of individuals who had invited and sponsored them at Jewish synagogues and churches.
