"It doesn't appear that San Francisco's previous center fielder had any issue with the change. "Jung Hoo was great," Posey said of his reaction to the signing. "Also there's an understanding on our end and to Jung Hoo that there's a chance that he could still be getting reps in center field. But our plan is to have Bader playing center field.""
"Lee had a decent amount of right field experience in Korea. He has played exclusively up the middle over his two seasons in the majors. Lee's physical tools are strong. He's an above-average runner with plus arm strength. His first step and routes weren't as strong, and defensive metrics weren't fond of his overall work. Statcast graded him five runs below average, while Defensive Runs Saved had him a glaring 18 runs worse than an average center fielder."
The Giants signed Harrison Bader to a two-year deal and plan to make him the everyday center fielder. Jung Hoo Lee will move primarily to right field while still possibly getting some center reps. Lee previously played right field in Korea but has been a center fielder in the majors. He brings above-average speed and a plus arm but showed weaknesses in first step and routes. Defensive metrics rated him well below average in center. Shifting him to a corner spot should fit his athletic profile but increases pressure on his bat.
