SF Giants' Devers scratched from Friday's lineup vs. Dodgers
"He's looked good when he's been in there. I've really liked the looseness to his swing. I think the baserunning and defense is something that, I don't want to say I undervalued it, but it's been a pleasant surprise to me that he's a well-rounded player."
Rafael Devers was removed from the Giants' lineup for Friday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers and World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto, with no official reason announced. Devers, struggling offensively with no hits in eight spring at-bats, was replaced by top prospect Bryce Eldridge in the second batting spot and at first base. Victor Bericoto, a 28-year-old Venezuelan international free agent signed in 2018, earned a notable lineup spot after performing well in Cactus League play with a .600 average, one home run, and three RBIs. Manager Tony Vitello praised Bericoto's swing looseness and well-rounded defensive and baserunning abilities. Right-handed reliever Joel Peguero, recovering from a tight left hamstring, is scheduled for a live bullpen session.
