NASA continues to invest in Boeing's Starliner spacecraft despite a troubled history, including a failed first crewed mission that resulted in significant changes and delays. The head of NASA's commercial crew program indicated a target for crew rotation flights to begin no earlier than late next year. Boeing faces competition from SpaceX's Crew Dragon, which has successfully completed numerous missions to the ISS. The anticipated operational date for Starliner has shifted significantly, now projected for 2026, 11 years later than initially expected.
Boeing and its propulsion supplier, Aerojet Rocketdyne, are making considerable changes to the Starliner spacecraft after a disastrous first crewed mission that left astronauts stranded for nine months.
Despite the significant delays, NASA is still committed to getting Starliner operational, with hopes of flying cargo first and potentially beginning crew rotation flights by the end of next year.
