The interstellar object 3I/ATLAS is approaching the solar system at high speeds and is only the third confirmed interstellar object to do so. Astronomers are exploring its unusual trajectory, which has sparked theories, including the possibility of it being alien technology. Harvard astronomer Avi Loeb suggests it may attempt to brake near Earth and Jupiter. However, he and his team state that their paper is largely speculative and the object's true nature is likely that of a comet or natural rock.
"The orbital path of 3I/ATLAS has some very unlikely combination of characteristics, which could quite easily have been simple coincidence, as extremely strange as that ostensibly appears."
"This paper is largely a pedagogical exercise"; the researchers believe that "by far the most likely outcome will be that 3I/ATLAS is a completely natural interstellar object, probably a comet."
