"I came into the job as a sceptic, but the sheer weight of the evidence—the sightings, the radar evidence—convinced me that some of these things that we see in the sky and call UFOs are extraterrestrial in origin."
"Most of them have conventional explanations. But, after rigorous investigation, we find that 5% or 10% absolutely defy any conventional explanation. And these ones, yes, it does look as if they may be some sort of craft from elsewhere."
Nick Pope, who worked at the UK Ministry of Defence from 1985 to 2006, wrote 'Open Skies, Closed Minds' in 1996, blending UFO cases with personal research. He served on the UFO desk from 1991 to 1994, assessing the defense significance of UFO sightings. During a BBC Newsnight interview, Pope, initially a skeptic, acknowledged that evidence convinced him some UFOs might be extraterrestrial. He noted that while most sightings have conventional explanations, a small percentage remain unexplained, suggesting potential extraterrestrial origins.
