Molly Picklum achieved a significant milestone at the Trestles Pro in California with a second-place finish, enhancing her position to third in the Women's World Surf League rankings. She scored a standout 9.6 in her semi-final against defending champion Caity Simmers, marking the highest score for women this season. Despite an impressive performance, she was eventually defeated by Bettylou Sakura Johnson in the final. Picklum expressed her happiness about her performance and the competitive environment, acknowledging the challenges she faces from other surfers as the season progresses towards Fiji.
I'm really happy with second place, said Picklum, who is hunting her third top-five finish in just her fourth season. This year, more than any other year, I've been pushed inside and outside of the water.
Caity obviously pushed me, and I'm so happy to have gotten one over her. She beats me every time, and then Bettylou, I got her a few times early on in our career, and now she's starting to get me.
Everyone's just so capable of beating everyone, and I'm so happy to be here.
The Australian's result firmed her hold of third place, well clear of fourth with three regular season events remaining before the top-five battle for the World Surf League title in Fiji in August.
