"Gibson said goodbye to us with tears in his eyes. Even though he was only with us for ten days, it's a bitter blow for such a young player,"
"We tried it together with Bayern Munich, but because we're a Category 4 club at the international level, we can't sign players under 18. It's a shame, but we'll try again next year,"
Gibson Adu, 17, returned to FC Bayern after a loan move to Austrian Bundesliga club SCR Altach ended before it began due to age and UEFA rules. Altach coach Fabio Ingolitsch confirmed Adu left after ten days, reportedly saying goodbye in tears. Adu remains under contract with FC Bayern until 2027. Altach were denied a playing permit because as a Category 4 club they cannot sign international players under 18. Club officials said they attempted the transfer with Bayern Munich and plan to pursue a loan again next year. UEFA allows international transfers under 18 only in limited circumstances such as parental relocation or demonstrated youth development programs. Category 4 licensing imposes strict regulations on dealings with underage players despite enabling competition participation.
