Steve Evans has been appointed manager of Bristol Rovers with the aim of reversing the club's poor form. Darrell Clarke was sacked after a 3-0 home defeat to Swindon that completed ten successive league losses and left the club in the relegation zone. Evans, 63, was out of work since his March dismissal at Rotherham. He has undertaken a major fitness drive, losing seven stone (44.4kg). Evans previously managed Leeds United, Mansfield Town, Peterborough United, Gillingham and Stevenage among other clubs. His first match in charge will be away at Crewe Alexandra on Friday at 19:45 GMT.
