Paul Merson hits out at Chelsea for allowing Nicolas Jackson to leave
"The Nicolas Jackson situation at Chelsea was very interesting,"
"He was on his way to Bayern Munich and all of a sudden, Liam Delap gets injured. They initially wanted to cancel Jackson's loan but later decided to let him join Bayern, possibly with one eye on balancing the books as well."
"If I were Chelsea, I would have kept him. I don't think he's a bad player. I'm surprised Newcastle didn't sign Jackson though. He fits the bill more than Nick Woltemade in the sense that he can be direct and make good runs like Alexander Isak."
Nicolas Jackson completed a loan move to Bayern Munich on Deadline Day after accepting limited playing opportunities at Chelsea following the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap. Chelsea briefly considered cancelling the loan when Liam Delap suffered a hamstring injury while Jackson was already in Bavaria, but negotiations resumed and Bayern paid around £14million for the season-long deal. The transfer generated views that Chelsea might have needed Jackson as forward cover. Newcastle United instead signed Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart, who scored 12 Bundesliga goals last season and could debut against Wolves.
