Sheffield United sack Ruben Selles after losing first six games of the season with Chris Wilder set for shock return to Championship's bottom side
"Sheffield United have sacked head coach Ruben Selles after losing their first six games of the season, with Chris Wilder strongly linked with a return."
"Following a review of recent performances, and taking into account the feelings of supporters, the timing of the change has been made to give the club the best possible opportunity to improve the current league position," the club said."
"Wilder has managed the club on two previous occasions between 2016-2021 and 2023-2025, guiding to the top flight in his first spell before being appointed to help the club avoid relegation during the 2023-24 season."
Sheffield United dismissed head coach Ruben Selles after the team lost their first six matches and sat bottom of the Championship with zero points. Selles' final game in charge was a 5-0 defeat at Ipswich. Selles had been appointed in the summer to replace Chris Wilder and had previous managerial roles at Hull and Reading. Since his appointment United lost all five Championship fixtures and were eliminated from the Carabao Cup in the second round by Birmingham. The club characterised the start to the season as "disappointing" and moved to change management to improve the league position. Chris Wilder is strongly linked with a third spell in charge.
