Nine Chinese Super League teams will begin the upcoming season with point deductions imposed after an investigation into match-fixing, gambling, and corruption. Shanghai Shenhua and Tianjin Tigers each received 10-point deductions. Four of the sanctioned clubs have already been relegated to China League One. Thirteen clubs were fined between 21,000 and 104,000 (200,000 and one million yuan). The CFA framed the penalties as measures to uphold industry discipline, purify the football environment, and maintain fair competition, and said sanctions reflect the amount, nature, seriousness and social impact of improper transactions. In September 2024, 43 officials and players received lifetime bans, and former Everton midfielder Li Tie and 73 others were banned from football for life, with Li Tie jailed after admitting to fixing matches and bribery.
