Tunisia secured direct qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America after a 1-0 away victory over Equatorial Guinea, courtesy of Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane's 94th-minute goal. The win left Tunisia with 22 points from eight games, 10 clear of second-placed Namibia, making the lead unassailable. Ben Romdhane, an Al Ahly midfielder, was set up by Firas Chaouat and had previously scored the only goal in their earlier meeting. Midfielder Ferjani Sassi highlighted difficult playing conditions in Malabo. Tunisia fielded players based in nine countries and are coached by former captain Sami Trabelsi. Tunisia have now qualified seven times for the World Cup.
