We will not back down': Senegal vow to appeal after Africa Cup of Nations title stripped
"This is a travesty; this decision is based on absolutely nothing. It has no legal foundation. The president of the federation will get in touch with the lawyers; we will engage with the appropriate authorities, and then we will go to the court of arbitration for sport, which will issue the final decision."
"We will not back down. Senegalese people should have no doubt. The truth is on Senegal's side, the law is on Senegal's side."
"The federation wishes to recall that its approach has never been intended to challenge the sporting performance of the teams participating in this competition, but solely to request the application of the competition's regulations."
The Senegalese football federation contests CAF's decision to award Morocco a 3-0 victory and strip Senegal of the January Africa Cup of Nations title. The ruling stemmed from Senegal's head coach and players leaving the pitch for 15 minutes in protest after Morocco was awarded a late penalty. After play resumed, the penalty was saved and Senegal won in extra time. CAF's appeal board declared Senegal forfeited the match. The Senegalese FA secretary general called the decision a travesty with no legal foundation and announced plans to appeal to the court of arbitration for sport. Morocco's federation stated it sought only to apply competition regulations.
