"no work, no school, no shopping"
"This was not an easy or casual decision. But in this moment, it feels important to pause and to stand in opposition to ICE and the violence, fear, and harm they continue to inflict on immigrant communities and those who stand with them."
"our immigrant team's livelihood depends on your patronage,"
Organizers called for a nationwide "no work, no school, no shopping" strike on Jan. 30 to protest the mass deployment of federal immigration agents and deaths of protestors and detainees. San Francisco reported at least 40 participating institutions and a planned Dolores Park rally at 1 p.m. Several businesses, including Al Pastor Papi, Donaji, Black Jet Bakery, and the Roxie Theater, announced closures. Students planned walkouts. Some businesses could not close for financial reasons; Reems will remain open but offer free coffee to protesters. Owners urged patrons to support striking businesses on other days.
