Op-Ed | Jewish safety is a progressive value | amNewYork
Briefly

Many Jewish individuals experienced profound grief on October 7. While some groups celebrated protests, Jewish families faced uncertainty about their loved ones' safety. Instead of receiving empathy, they encountered avoidance and equivocation. The silence from community members regarding anti-Semitic chants following the protests further highlighted a troubling double standard in addressing bigotry. Acts of vandalism targeting Jewish individuals and establishments were often excused as political expression. A grassroots coalition called Brooklyn BridgeBuilders was formed to combat rising antisemitism and demand accountability from leaders.
Instead of empathy, there was avoidance. Instead of moral clarity, there was equivocation or in some cases, justification.
This hypocrisy reveals a dangerous double standard: Progressives reject bigotry unless it's aimed at Jews.
