Pro-Palestine Activists Win $100k Settlement From University of Maryland
Briefly

The University of Maryland has agreed to a $100,000 settlement due to a lawsuit filed by a pro-Palestine student group. This settlement follows a judge's preliminary injunction affirming the students' rights to hold a vigil for Gaza. According to Palestine Legal, this penalty represents the largest financial punishment a university has faced for infringing on students' rights to free speech on Palestinian issues. The Students for Justice in Palestine plans to utilize the settlement funds to continue their activism for Palestinian liberation.
"This legal victory reaffirms our protected rights to protest and speak out against the US-Israeli genocide of Palestinians - and we will keep exercising those rights," said Daniela Colombi, a UMD SJP member.
"UMD SJP will spend every dollar of UMD's $100,000 penalty for banning our vigil for Gaza toward organizing for a free Palestine and for collective liberation."
