Woman kept in Dickensian' servitude for 25 years speaks out as abuser jailed
"For 25 years I lived in fear, control and abuse. I was treated as though my life, my freedom and my voice did not matter. The trauma and the nightmares are something I still carry with me every day."
"I am now living with a wonderful family who show me kindness, patience and support. Their love is helping me slowly rebuild the life that was taken from me and begin to feel safe again. Nothing can give me back the 25 years I lost."
"Wixon beat the woman, squirted washing-up liquid down her throat, splashed bleach on her face and shaved her head against her will. The woman lived off scraps, could not leave the house in Gloucestershire, and was forced to wash secretly at night."
A woman in her 40s was imprisoned and exploited for over 25 years by Amanda Wixon in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire. During her captivity, she endured physical abuse including beatings, chemical assault with bleach and washing-up liquid, and forced head shaving. She lived in extreme deprivation, surviving on scraps, unable to leave the house, and forced to bathe secretly at night. Her benefit payments were diverted to Wixon's account. Police discovered voice notes revealing her desperation and isolation. Wixon was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment. The victim now lives with a supportive family and is rebuilding her life, though she states nothing can restore her lost years. Social services faces scrutiny for failing to identify and intervene in this case.
