How Total War: Warhammer 40K's Factions Will Be "Totally Different" From Past Games
"Total War: Warhammer 40,000's four asymmetrical factions will vary wildly from one another, as developer Creative Assembly has now outlined how some of the game's factions will play and be "totally different" from factions seen before in the Total War franchise."
""If you want the most 'Total War' experience when playing this game, I'd pick the Astra Militarum," principal creative director Ian Roxburgh said."
""They are a very limited force; it's going to be a very different gameplay style," lead designer Simon Mann said."
Total War: Warhammer 40,000 will feature four playable factions—Space Marines, Astra Militarum, Orks, and Aeldari—each designed to play very differently. Each faction will field troops, gather resources, and engage in battle using unique mechanics and strategies. Astra Militarum will follow a more traditional Total War formula with massed infantry, artillery support, infrastructure building, resource gathering, and large-scale recruitment. Space Marines will focus on powerful individual units, rely on a much smaller force, and will not emphasize traditional infrastructure or large-scale recruitment. A limited number of factions were selected to allow significant development effort on each, maximizing asymmetry and distinctiveness.
