Demand For Scout's Extended-Range EVs Blew Away Expectations, CEO Says
"Scout Motors made an early bet on the technology, which pairs a classic electric platform with a gas-powered generator that feeds extra energy to the battery pack during longer trips, without ever powering the wheels directly. And judging by the startup EV brand's latest reservation figures, that move is paying off. Roughly 85% of the company's reservations to date are for extended-range variants of the rugged Terra pickup and Traveler SUV, Scout CEO Scott Keogh told InsideEVs in an interview."
"Since unveiling its first two vehicles in October of 2024, the independent Volkswagen subsidiary has collected over 150,000 refundable reservations, a company spokesperson said. Soon we'll learn how well that early intent translates into real sales; Scout's debut vehicles are set to go into production at a new plant in South Carolina by the end of 2027. Keogh said the interest in EREVs blew away his expectations."
Scout Motors, an independent Volkswagen subsidiary, has collected over 150,000 refundable reservations since unveiling two vehicles in October 2024. Approximately 85% of reservations are for extended-range Harvester variants of the Terra pickup and Traveler SUV, while 15% are for pure-electric versions. Extended-range electric vehicles pair an electric platform with a gas-powered generator that recharges the battery on longer trips without directly powering the wheels. CEO Scott Keogh originally expected a roughly 60/40 split but said interest in EREVs exceeded expectations. Scout plans to produce the Terra and Traveler at a new South Carolina plant by the end of 2027 and will likely launch EREVs first.
