Steve and Dave Jolliffe, founders of Topgolf, have launched a new venture called Poolhouse, which has secured $34 million in funding. The project aims to adapt the Topgolf model to billiards, focusing on creating a social atmosphere with tech-enhanced gameplay and a lounge-style setting emphasizing gourmet food and drink. Their first location is planned for London, with plans to expand to the USA. This venture is seen as part of a growing trend in competitive socialization, which seeks to modernize leisure sports. Investors like Sharp Alpha and DMG Ventures recognize its potential.
"Who would have thought 20, 25 years ago when Topgolf was created that people would be going in dresses and high heels, having never swung a golf club before, and having a great time playing golf," Poolhouse CEO and cofounder Andrew O'Brien told BI.
Poolhouse plans to bring Topgolf's recreational model to billiards, making the game more social with a lounge-like experience and enhanced food and drink offerings.
