One of the best TVs we lab-tested this year is still one of the most affordable
"TCL consistently outperforms its competitors, offering impressive TV technology at prices that necessitate a cost-benefit analysis when considering other brands. For that reason, I've recommended a few recent TCL models to readers, friends, and family. Also: How to clear your TV cache (and wipe out lag for good) After spending several weeks with the 65-inch in our testing lab, I found out what separates the company's 2025 flagship model from others in its class."
"My primary critique was the issue of installing the base/stand on that TV, which required 12 screws and more head-scratching time than I care for. Disappointingly, the QM8K required the exact same procedure; there was no improvement there despite the $1,200 difference in the two models. Also: This portable soundbar solved my biggest problem with modern-day TV audio (at a low price)"
"The QM8K boasts a "ZeroBorder" design, which is close, but not exactly accurate: its actual bezel is about 4mm wide. That's not bad at all, but "zero" means none, not four millimeters. Still, you'll be looking at a floating rectangle of bright imagery that holds up well even in a sun-drenched room with lots of windows. Its remote control is identical to the QM7K's, a bit plasticky for a flagship product. While it doesn't feel as premium as the TV it controls, it is a backlit remote (thankfully), and you can operate the TV hands-free with voice control through Google Assistant."
TCL delivers strong value by combining advanced TV technology with competitive pricing that prompts cost-benefit comparisons against other brands. The 2025 QM8K flagship provides notably bright, clear imagery that performs well in sunlit rooms and presents a near-zero bezel aesthetic with an actual bezel around 4mm. The TV pairs Google TV with built-in Chromecast for easy streaming app access and supports hands-free control via Google Assistant. The included remote is plasticky but backlit. Stand installation requires a 12-screw process identical to a lower-tier model, with no improvement despite higher price.
