"The Ontario government broke ground Friday on the first of three stations in the Scarborough subway extension that's intended to replace a former subway line that derailed two years ago. Scarborough Centre Station will be the first of three new stops on the eastern portion of Line 2, and will be able to accommodate more than 10,000 passengers and 7,000 transfers during rush hour once completed, the Ministry of Transportation said in a news release."
"Set to open in 2030, the Line 2 subway extension has been under construction since 2021 and will connect Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, replacing Line 3 after derailments forced it to shut down permanently in 2023. The project aims to shorten travel times for nearly 30,000 students and staff, as well as get 38,000 people within walking distance of transit once complete, the release said."
