Briefly

On Saturday evening, Charmaine Ramirez and David Candelaria had just left the Lapu-Lapu Day festival in Vancouver when they received a call from a friend informing them of a horrific incident nearby, where a black SUV plowed into a crowd. The incident resulted in 11 deaths, with victims ranging from five to 65 years old, and left many others injured. The Filipino community, particularly in Toronto, is mourning the tragedy, as many felt a connection to the festival and the potential for loss among those present.
"We were in shock. We're heartbroken coming back home after what was supposed to be such a great celebration," Ramirez said.
"It could have been anyone. So we just felt lucky that we were safe, but also, extremely sad that it was happening," Candelaria explained.
