In her playoff debut, rookie Julia Gosling scored two goals, marking her first even-strength goal, contributing to the Toronto Sceptres' 3-2 victory against the Minnesota Frost in Game 1 of their semifinal series. The Sceptres' Captain Blayre Turnbull also scored as the team took an early lead. Coach Troy Ryan praised the team's strong defensive play and timely offense. Despite strong attempts from Minnesotaâwho had beaten Toronto in the previous playoff seasonâthe Sceptres' solid performance showcased their readiness and energy for the postseason challenge.
"It was really exciting and it's my first 5-on-5 goal. Just the way we were playing and the way our lines were changing, I think it just put me in a great spot to get that opportunity and then just use my shot."
"I think the biggest takeaway for us is if you play the right way, chances are you'll get rewarded. I thought we played responsible defensively, responsible physically, and some timely offence as well."
"We knew they were going to come out with a lot of energy and play hard, and obviously, spotting them a 3-0 lead is a tough spot to be."
"I think tonight we just showed up and we were ready to play. We played a really good game in the first period. I thought we really set the tone."
