Direct long-distance services between Berlin and Hamburg are cancelled in both directions because of a faulty overhead line near Uelzen. The fault affects an alternative, partially single-track route through Uelzen, Salzwedel and Stendal, and high-speed ICE trains are not operating on that route. Planned track renovations on the Berlin–Hamburg corridor will already extend journey times through April 2026. Deutsche Bahn advises passengers to travel via Hanover and change trains there. Trains between Hamburg and Hanover are being rerouted with possible delays up to 50 minutes and some ICE services are not stopping at Celle, Uelzen and Luneburg. Deutsche Bahn expected repairs by Monday afternoon. Tickets for September 22 can be used later without extra cost, alternate routes are permitted, seat reservations can be cancelled free, and passengers delayed 60 minutes or more may be eligible for compensation.
