I spent 9 days touring Sicily. There are 4 things I'll do differently next time I visit.
"As the great-granddaughter of Sicilian immigrants, I'd always dreamed of exploring my family's homeland. Last year, I finally took the plunge and spent nine days tracing my roots across Sicily from Catania to Palermo, my great-grandfather's birthplace. Despite my limited timeframe, I got a great sense of Sicily's landscape, rhythms, and personality, and I'm already planning to return. However, there are a few things I'll do differently."
"I booked my trip for the first week of October, and when I noticed rain in the forecast every day, I brushed it off. How accurate are weather forecasts anyway? Apparently, they're pretty accurate. It rained about half of the time I was there. The unpredictable weather put a dark cloud (literally) over my day trip to Taormina and brought a damp chill to my beach weekend in charming Cefalù."
A great-granddaughter of Sicilian immigrants spent nine days tracing family roots across Sicily from Catania to Palermo. The trip provided a strong sense of the island's landscape, rhythms, and personality despite a limited timeframe. Frequent rain in early October disrupted several plans, including a day trip to Taormina, a chilled beach weekend in charming Cefalù, and a torrential downpour that wiped out a half-day in Noto. A wine bar in Noto offered a memorable Mt. Etna Rosso and an exceptional meat-and-cheese board. The itinerary's scope was ambitious, and future plans call for visiting a single coast and traveling in a different season.
