The experience in Washington, DC was unsatisfactory due to the lack of nature and a relaxed lifestyle compared to previous international living. In search of a better fit, a month was spent in various cities, including Taos and Santa Fe in New Mexico. Taos was beautiful but too quiet, while Santa Fe offered vibrant arts and hiking. Ultimately, after these explorations, San Diego emerged as the ideal place, marrying nature with community.
I expected to feel at home in Washington, DC, but living in the city wasn't what I'd imagined; I missed the wide expanses of nature and the relaxed work-life vibe I'd experienced in other countries.
After three years in DC, I gave up on the city when my job became remote, and started searching for where to live next, visiting several American cities.
I found Taos to be beautiful with friendly locals, but the population under 7,000 made it a little too quiet for me.
Santa Fe's vibrant arts scene, beautiful landscape, and hiking opportunities were great, but I ultimately sought a more energetic atmosphere.
