"The MTA plans to extend Metro-North Railroad service north to the Albany area, offering a once-a-day round trip between Grand Central Terminal and the Capital Region. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday announced the northward expansion will launch in the spring, noting it will be the first commuter train service between Grand Central and Albany-Rensselaer since 1967. The new trip will serve as an alternative to Amtrak trains that run between Manhattan Penn Station and the Capital Region."
"The transit agency hasn't yet set an exact cost for the trip, but expects it to be similar to the lower end of Amtrak's one-way tickets from New York City to Albany - around $40. Hochul's office said the fares for the new Metro-North service will be fixed, unlike Amtrak's trains, which have variable prices that can exceed $100 on some trips."

The service will be the first commuter train between Grand Central and Albany-Rensselaer since 1967 and will run as an alternative to Amtrak trips between Manhattan Penn Station and the Capital Region. The Hudson Line will extend roughly 80 miles beyond Poughkeepsie and will include stops in Rhinecliff, Hudson and Albany-Rensselaer. The round-trip train will depart Grand Central mid-morning and return in the afternoon. Fares are expected to be fixed and near the lower end of Amtrak prices, around $40.
