Airline blankets are often found to be unsanitary, with flight attendants reporting alarming discoveries like hair, food remnants, and even mold. Due to varying washing protocols across airlines, many blankets on domestic flights are simply refolded and reused without cleaning. Flight attendant Natalie Magee advises using caution and suggests that if blankets are not in sealed bags, they're likely not sanitary. To avoid this issue, she recommends travelers bring their own travel blankets, such as the compact EverSnug Blanket, which offers both convenience and comfort during flights.
"Probably one of the grossest things I've seen is someone using blankets to change their baby's diaper," Magee admitted to Travel + Leisure.
"If they aren't in a [sealed] bag, they aren't sanitary," Magee stressed, advising travelers to bring their own blankets.
