Campaign group for British voters in Europe to hold first meeting in Italy
Briefly

The British Overseas Voters Forum (BOVF) will convene its first European meeting on September 9th, 2025, in Milan. Established after a law change in 2024 allowing British expats to vote regardless of their time abroad, BOVF aims to mobilize UK citizens overseas to register and influence UK policies. Key issues for campaigns include visa access, university fees and better communication with the UK government. Despite the new rules, only 200,000 of the 3.5 million eligible Britons abroad have registered to vote, indicating significant challenges ahead.
The British Overseas Voters Forum (BOVF) will hold its inaugural meeting in Europe at 6pm on September 9th, 2025 at the All Saints' Anglican Church in Milan.
BOVF was formed after the 2024 law change allowing British citizens abroad to vote regardless of how long they have lived outside the UK.
BOVF aims to galvanize UK citizens abroad to register to vote and have real influence in the UK through various mechanisms.
Following the scrapping of the UK's "15-year rule" in 2024, the overseas electorate increased to approximately 3.5 million British voters.
