Charity cuts ties with Sarah Ferguson over message to Jeffrey Epstein
"Following the information shared this weekend on the duchess of York's correspondence with Jeffrey Epstein, Julia's House has taken the decision that it would be inappropriate for her to continue as a patron of the charity. We have advised the duchess of York of this decision and thank her for her past support. The Sun newspaper reported that the duchess had humbly apologised to Epstein for linking him to paedophilia in the media, and described him as steadfast and generous."
"I abhor paedophilia and any sexual abuse of children and know that this was a gigantic error of judgment on my behalf. I am just so contrite I cannot say, she had told the paper. Whenever I can, I will repay the money and have nothing ever to do with Jeffrey Epstein ever again. But, a little more than a month later, the duchess sent the message to Epstein. In it, she said: I know you feel hellaciously let down by me."
Julia's House severed ties with Sarah, Duchess of York after she described Jeffrey Epstein as a "supreme friend" in a 2011 letter. A spokesperson said the letter was written in 2011 to head off threats of legal action after Ferguson had linked Epstein to paedophilia in a newspaper interview. The hospice stated the correspondence made her unsuitable as a patron and thanked her for past support. Ferguson apologised for accepting 15,000 from Epstein, condemned paedophilia, said she would repay the money and vowed to have nothing to do with him, yet later sent him a conciliatory message.
