Martin Asolo-Ogugua, a 23-year-old bus driver, was sentenced to four years in prison for the death of nine-year-old Ada Bicakci. She died from catastrophic injuries after being hit by the bus he was driving while under the influence of cannabis. He had fallen asleep at the wheel, leading the bus to veer off course. Ada's father described the tragedy as a catastrophic failure of fatherhood, and she was remembered fondly for her vibrant life, contributing to organ donations posthumously. Asolo-Ogugua was also disqualified from driving for seven years as part of his sentencing.
Ada's father, Bora Bicakci, expressed his profound grief, stating, "My world has been turned upside down, and with it, the foundations of my family have crumbled."
Senior Crown Prosecutor Miranda Jollie denounced Asolo-Ogugua's actions, labeling him "reckless and utterly selfish" during the legal proceedings.
