The Department for Business and Trade is engaging at a high level with Jaguar Land Rover and the wider British automotive industry after a cyber attack suspended car production at JLR facilities. Officials held an extraordinary meeting with the SMMT Automotive Components Section to understand supply-chain impacts. JLR produced over 300,000 vehicles in 2024 and employs more than 30,000 people, making it central to the UK industry. Many suppliers have shut assembly lines because they cannot deliver parts to JLR and face possible redundancies. DBT cyber experts are assisting JLR and ministers have discussed regional economic effects. Trade union Unite urged a furlough-style government scheme to protect jobs.
