A 24-year-old Algerian asylum seeker, Brahim Kaddour-Cherif, was jailed for 26 weeks for assaulting two police officers at Blackhorse Road Underground station on July 20. An off-duty officer, Pc Bradley Glynn, spotted Kaddour-Cherif taking a mobile phone from a sleeping passenger, retrieved the handset and ordered him off the train. Kaddour-Cherif allegedly stood by the doors intending to reboard, then punched Pc Glynn; Pc Jason Norton joined and a scuffle followed during which Kaddour-Cherif punched, bit and slammed officers. Kaddour-Cherif had been mistakenly released from HMP Wandsworth in November while facing multiple active criminal cases, prompting a national manhunt and concerns about accidental prisoner releases.
