A 10-year-old girl and a 35-year-old woman were struck by a car in Dagenham on April 23, causing serious concern for their wellbeing. Fortunately, police later reported that the girl's condition was no longer deemed life-changing. The incident saw a remarkable response from bystanders, including Luke Collins, a nurse, who described the collective effort of around 30 individuals working to lift the car off the victims. Witnesses praised the community spirit, highlighting how diverse individuals came together in a moment of crisis to help.
I saw loads of people just actively trying to move a car and I was thinking immediately, okay, someone's trapped underneath it. And then when I saw his little girl, it was even more shocking. I was expecting the worst.
It really made me feel good about people in the area and people of all walks of life coming together for the shared goal of trying to help someone. Push comes to shove, Londoners can be grumpy, but they'll definitely come together in a pitch - great community spirit.
